Description

Procedure

  • Open the envelope and carefully remove the sterile swab provided. Immerse the swab in a tube filled with sterile physiological solution to ensure it’s adequately moistened.
  • Gently press the swab against the inner wall of the tube to eliminate any excess liquid, preparing it for the sampling process without
    oversaturation.
  • Gently streak the prepared swab across the work surface or equipment in a horizontal manner.
  • Follow by streaking vertically over the same area, ensuring a comprehensive coverage for an effective sampling. This crosshatching method helps in collecting a wide range of potential microbial contaminants from the surface.
  • After collecting the sample, carefully insert the swab back into the tube that contains the culture medium.
  • Securely close the tube to prevent any contamination or loss of the sample.
  • Place the tube in an incubator set at 37°C. Allow the sample to incubate for a period of 18 to 24 hours. This temperature and time frame are optimal for the growth of many common types of bacteria.
  • After the incubation period, proceed to interpret the results based on the changes observed in the culture medium, such as color change or the appearance of turbidity, which indicate microbial growth.
