Swabs for detection of E-coli and coliforms

Tests to detect E. coli and coliforms on surfaces.

Categories: ,

Description

These tests are designed for easy and direct application to areas suspected of contamination, allowing for the quantification (microbial count) and identification of microbes present. It is a valuable resource in environments requiring strict microbial management, such as laboratories, healthcare facilities, food processing plants, and other areas where cleanliness and sterility are crucial. By providing a straightforward method for monitoring surface cleanliness, the MICROBES CONTAM SWABS series help in maintaining hygiene standards and preventing microbial contamination.

Advantages

  • Ease of Use: The tests are straightforward to administer directly on work surfaces without the need for specialized training, making it accessible for routine monitoring.
  • Clear Color Changes: The culture mediums are designed to exhibit noticeable color changes in the presence of microbial growth, simplifying the interpretation of results.
  • No Additional Reagents Required: These self-contained tests eliminate the need for external reagents, streamlining the testing process and reducing potential errors.
  • Rapid Results: Results can be obtained within 18 to 24 hours, enabling quick decision-making regarding cleanliness and the need for disinfection.
  • Sensitive Detection: With a detection limit of 10 colonyforming units (CFU) per milliliter, the tests are highly sensitive, ensuring even low levels of microbialcontamination can be detected.

Procedure

  • Open the envelope and carefully remove the sterile swab provided. Immerse the swab in a tube filled with sterile physiological solution to ensure it’s adequately moistened.
  • Gently press the swab against the inner wall of the tube to eliminate any excess liquid, preparing it for the sampling process without
    oversaturation.
  • Gently streak the prepared swab across the work surface or equipment in a horizontal manner.
  • Follow by streaking vertically over the same area, ensuring a comprehensive coverage for an effective sampling. This crosshatching method helps in collecting a wide range of potential microbial contaminants from the surface.
  • After collecting the sample, carefully insert the swab back into the tube that contains the culture medium.
  • Securely close the tube to prevent any contamination or loss of the sample.
  • Place the tube in an incubator set at 37°C. Allow the sample to incubate for a period of 18 to 24 hours. This temperature and time frame are optimal for the growth of many common types of bacteria.
  • After the incubation period, proceed to interpret the results based on the changes observed in the culture medium, such as color change or the appearance of turbidity, which indicate microbial growth.

Packaging

  • Designed for ease of use and longevity, the kit is stored ideally between 10-25°C, shielded from light.
  • package: 30 vials with reagent, 30 sterile wooden cotton swabs, 30 bottles water for injection
  • Ref.No: ECL-100030
