Die Aufzeichnung erfolgt mit einem Stift auf Papier, das sich um die rotierende Trommel eingewickelt ist. Die Aufzeichnung und ebenso die Drehung der Trommel kann t\u00e4glich oder w\u00f6chentlich sein.
